Travelling Lion Competition

Rules

  1. The competition shall be known as the District 105M Visiting Lion Competition.
  2. The object of the Competition is to encourage Lion Members to visit among Lions Members and Clubs throughout the District.
  3. The competition year shall commence on the first day of March and end on the last day of February of the following year.
  4. The trophy will be won by the Club within the District, which, during the period of the Competition, scores the greatest number of points.
  5. Points will be awarded to each club visiting on the basis of 15 points for each Lion visiting. Bonus points will be awarded on the following basis:-

    5 – 9 Lion Attending + 10%
    10 – 14 Lions Attending + 15%
    15 – 19 Lions Attending + 20%
    20 + Lions Attending + 25%

    In addition, 10 points per Lion shall be awarded for attendance at the Clubs Zone Meetings. Similarly, 25 points shall be awarded for attendance at the District Forum and 50 points for attendance at the District Convention.

    NB Points for Zone Meetings shall be limited to three such meetings in the Clubs own particular zone.

  6. In the event of a tie at the end of the competition, the total number of visits made, plus the total number of visiting Lions, she be added to the points awarded to determine the winner.

  7. An event/visit shall deemed to have taken place when one of the following meetings or functions has been attended:-

    a) Club

    • Regular Business Meeting
    • Committee Meetings
    • Social Event
    • Fundraising Event
    • Formation or Extension Meeting
    • Charter Presentation or Anniversary Dinner

    b) Zone Region

    • Official Zone Meeting
    • Zone Social Event
    • Zone Fundraising Event
    • Zone or Regional Forum or Seminar
    • District Convention or Forum

    NB Visits to MD Cabinet Meetings or other District meetings do not qualify. Clubs of the District Governor and the Vice District Governor are excluded from gaining points if they are accompanying the District Governor or the Vice District Governor on their official Club Visits/Events.

  8. a) In any one-day period a Lion may only count points for one event/visit.
    b) No points shall be awarded for the fourth or any subsequent event/visit to any of the above categories in any one competitions year.
    c) Event/visits outside District 105M do not count.
    d) Official events/visits by District Officers shall not count towards the points total of his/her Club.
    e) In the event of a Meeting being cancelled no points can be claimed by visiting Lions.

  9. A table of points scored by the leading Clubs, giving the date to which the figures are compiled, will be periodically published.

  10. a) Upon every occasion when a visit is made the visitors must fill in a ‘Visiting Lion Report Card’.
    b) The completed card shall be signed, during the event/visit after it has been filled in, by the Secretary or other responsible officer of the Club visited, or in the event of a Zone or Regional event/visit the card shall be signed by the Zone Chairman or DG. For visits to District Convention the card shall be signed by the DG or the Secretary to Convention.
    c) The visiting Lions must then send the card by post to reach the District Competitions Officer within 14 days of the date of the event/visit (NB no points will be credited unless this rule is complied with), including those cards for the Multiple District.

  11. a) The trophy shall be known as ‘Visiting Lion Trophy’ and held by the winning Club for one year.
    b) The winning Club shall be responsible for:-
    • The safekeeping and insurance of the Trophy for one year
    • The engraving of their names on the Trophy in similar style
    • The delivery of the Trophy to the District Competitions Officer by the second week in February prior to the next District Convention

    c) The Trophy will be presented to the winning Club at District Convention

    Official visits by District Officers shall not count towards the points total of his/her Club.

  12. Lions booked into events/meetings and subsequently not in attendance, no points can be claimed.

  13. Points for non Lions cannot be awarded. In the event of any differences of opinion regarding the interpretation of these rules, the District Competitions Officer decision shall be final.

  14. All Clubs in 105M shall be eligible to compete including Clubs formed during the period.
