The Roy White Website and Social Media Trophy

Eligibility and aims

The 105M Website and Social Media Competition is open to all Lions, Leos and Lioness clubs (including branch clubs) within District 105M. The aim of the competition is to:

  1. promote the use of websites by clubs.
  2. raise the standard of club websites.
  3. recognise our club webmasters.
  4. promote the sharing of club information.
  5. promote communication via electronic means for environmental reasons.
  6. promote the use of social media by clubs.

Website Section

The Rules

  1. Entry is automatic.
  2. The site must be maintained by a member or members of the club entering the competition.
  3. The Judges' decision is final.

Judging

Points will be awarded for content, accuracy, ease of use, accessibility, innovation and design.

As the competition is about club websites the Judges will be looking primarily for content directly relating to the club, the community it serves and the activities carried out. A greater percentage of the points shall be allocated to this area of judging. The Judges will use the following as a guide to awarding points to ensure that all entrants are treated fairly and that personal bias does not come into play.

From a PR point the judges will concentrate on the content, ease of use of the website using the following as guidance:

  1. Is it obvious that this is a Lions website (use of latest official Logos etc)?
  2. Is the website information current?
  3. Is it easy to find information on various projects?
  4. How much information on Lions projects is there?
  5. Is there information on the local community?
  6. How easy is it to navigate the website?
  7. Is it obvious the site is part of an International Organisation?
  8. Does the site link back to District/MD/International websites?
  9. Does the site contain contact information or a way to contact the club?
  10. Is there an archive of previous events?
  11. Is the club history on the website?
  12. Are the club officers named?
  13. Is there any inappropriate content or links to inappropriate external websites?
  14. Is the site attractive to look at?
  15. Overall how effective is the website from a PR perspective? Is it informing the public about Lions?
  16. Overall how effective is the website from a membership perspective? Would this website encourage you to join?

From an IT point the judges will concentrate on the design, usability, accuracy and accessibility of the website using the following as guidance:

  1. Is image quality acceptable?
  2. Are images too large and therefore taking a long time to load?
  3. Is there a site summary or site map?
  4. Is there a site search?
  5. Are there any broken links?
  6. Do external links open in a new window?
  7. Do internal links open in the same window?
  8. Is overall download speed acceptable?
  9. Is there any keyboard navigation on forms?
  10. Are all pages just three clicks from the home page?
  11. Is all text easily readable with acceptable contrast?
  12. Are font sizes changeable using the browser controls?
  13. Is the site listed on search engines?
  14. Does the site display consistently on the main browsers - Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera, and Chrome?
  15. Is the layout consistent throughout the website?
  16. How original is the website design?

Notes

Template based websites are acceptable. Professionally designed websites are also acceptable provided that the content is managed by club members.

Social Media Section

The Rules

  1. Clubs must have prominent links on their website to their social media pages (includes Facebook and Twitter).
  2. The judges will use the links found on the club website to view the club social media pages.
  3. The club social media pages must be maintained by a member or members of the club entering the competition.
  4. The Judges' decision is final.

The Judges will use the following as a guide to awarding points to ensure that all entrants are treated fairly and that personal bias does not come into play. The judges will concentrate on the content and freshness of the page using the following as guidance:

  1. Is it obvious that this is a Lions page (use of latest official Logos, meaningful preamble etc)?
  2. Is the page current?
  3. Number of Facebook 'Likes', Twitter 'Followers' etc.
  4. How much information on Lions projects is there?
  5. Is there information on the local community?
  6. Are there photos of the club members engaged in Lions activities?
  7. Is the quality of any images acceptable?
  8. Is it obvious the club is part of an International Organisation?
  9. Does the page link back to the club website?
  10. Does the club website link to the social media page or pages?
  11. Are messages answered in a timely manner?
  12. Is there any inappropriate content or links to inappropriate external websites?
  13. Overall how effective is the page from a public relations perspective? Is it informing the public about Lions?
  14. Overall how effective is the page from a membership perspective? Would this page encourage you to join?

  1. As this is the first year of this Social Media section this criteria is subject to change.
