In April 2012 some local companies were approached by Shakespeare Lions to establish if they would sponsor a River Festival Grand Draw. After initial soundings, it was obvious that the idea of raising money with a waterways theme at the River Festival was popular, with the proceeds being used to enable those who needed support to enjoy our local waterways being given that opportunity. A marvellous contribution was made with a prize fund of £1600.00
Shakespeare Lions then took up the challenge selling raffle tickets at Morrison’s, in the work place, clubs, to friends and finally at the River Festival. The outcome from sales and donations amounted to £1599.95. A final Lion donation of 5p equalled the prize fund in sales a magic £1600.00.
The Club will now explore ways to put the money to best use and will give an update of what’s been achieved in due course. Thanks go out to the sponsors of prizes and members of the general public for their generous support.
