GODIVA LIONS HELP CELEBRATE DIWALI AT LOCAL CARE CENTRE

Presentation of Gift to Day Centre Visitor

The Lions Club of Coventry Godiva organised a Diwali Party and get together with the elderly and day care visitors at Frank Walsh House Day Care in Coventry on 22nd November 2012.

This annual event has been organised by Godiva Lions for the past 17 years at the Centre and is attended by the Day care visitors and residents. It gives them the opportunity to celebrate the festive spirit of Diwali in the company of friends and well-wishers and the club members an opportunity to get involved in serving the needy and the elderly in our community.

Godiva Lion members and around 60 visitors, residents and carers attended the event at the Centre this year. Guests were treated to sumptuous vegetarian food and stage entertainment, which, amongst other items, included singing, dancing, games, sitar music and Bollywood dances by young talents from the community. Everyone joined in the fun to celebrate the festive spirit of Diwali and the evening concluded with a grand raffle draw. This year, thanks to the financial support from well-wishers, we were able to give gifts of warm clothing to the regular visitors at the Centre.

The Club received a valuable donation of £500 from the George Perkins Charitable Trust, which was used to fund the event. Expenditure for the event was £356.50 for provision of catering, entertainment and gifts. The balance of the funds are expected to be used to support future such events. The management and staff at the Centre made a contribution of around £75 towards raffle prizes.

We would like to thank George Perkins Charitable Trust and the management and staff of Frank Walsh House Day Care Centre for their valuable support to make this event possible and contribute to the enjoyment and welfare of those in need in our community.
