Southam Lions May Day Fete

Southam Lions May Day Fete

What a difference a year makes! Last year the Fete was literally ‘washed out’ with teeming rain all day and this year we had the warmest day of the year with unbroken sunshine! With the fine weather the crowds turned out to try and win things or purchase the mouth watering cakes and other goodies on display. Punch and Judy were there to entertain the kids, and the crowds were treated to a lovely display of dancing and gymnastic skills from the children of Secret Garden Musical Theatre School. Mary Rhodes from BBC Television opened the event and spoke warmly of the work of Southam Lions as too did Mike Gaffney the current Mayor of Southam who was present with his wife and consort Gwenda.

Mary and Mike together with Lions President, Roger Lane, toured the area and spoke to crowds stopping every now and then for the obligatory photographs. A great day was enjoyed by everyone and maybe this was in part due to the location which was at the Bowling Green Pub in Southam – thirsty work for all involved!!
