The Fayre is coming to town

The Aldridge Fayre is the major community event for Aldridge and the surrounding areas and the 19th annual Fayre, organised by the Aldridge & District Lions Club, will be held on Saturday 22nd June at Anchor Meadow in Aldridge.

Aldridge Lions President and Fayre Co-ordinator, Harry Fry, said, “In addition to being a great family day out it will benefit the 40 charity groups who have stalls at the Fayre. Most of these charities have been with us for many years, some even from the first Fayre held – this is evidence of the benefit we are able to offer to local charitable groups.”

With several trade stalls, a large fun fair and a full afternoon of entertainment in the arena, there will be something to suit all those who attend – at any age. Arena events are varied with music, dance, displays and other attractions. This year will include bands from Cannock Chase Drum Corps, the Aldridge Air Training Corps and Walsall Junior Coronets, drill demonstrations, dance displays from Cooper Jordan and Joe Leigh, a tai Chi demonstration and items from the Aldridge Musical Comedy Society.

Harry Fry said, “With cadets from both the Army and Air Force present there should be some competition around and we are supplying a tug-of war rope to see what they can do.”

In addition to the arena events and many side stalls there will be the John Humphries fun fair plus several activities for children.

Aldridge Lions have been a major contributor to many local charities over the past years and Harry Fry said, “Not only does the Fayre help the attending charities raise monies for their own funds, the Aldridge & District Lions Club have nominated charities for which they raise funds throughout the year, the majority of this coming from various Fayre incomes. This year our nominated charities are Children’s’ Cancer Trusts and we hope to present substantial cheques to these charities at the Fayre.”

The Fayre is free entry and parking and the Lions rely totally on trade stalls, donations and sponsorship to fund the Fayre.
