Didn’t we have a lovely day the day we went to Evesham

Off we went on Saturday 15th June with our intrepid pensioners from Acocks Green on our annual coach trip. All aboard, Zimmer frames stashed in the coach’s luggage compartment and with the weather not too bad we headed towards Evesham via the local Country Park. We knew everything was set fair because out came Lion Terry Smith’s knitting and we were regaled with the hypnotic clack, clack of the needles.

An hour and half later we were loading up the coach again and pressing on to Evesham town were our crew invaded the shops looking for bargains. Another hour and half and we were on course for the Swan Hotel in Alcester for a late lunch of soup, cottage pie followed by apple pie and custard. With the bar open this really nice crowd settled in for the afternoon.

With the heads down I first thought our OAP’s, as the photo shows, were concentrating on a copy of the Lions story but I quickly realised that a few games of bingo were underway.

The afternoon was finished off with a raffle and some music delivered by Lion Tony Downes who also acted as our bingo caller. Alas many of our guests aren’t as fast as they used to be and some struggle to get on and off the coach but love coming out with us for the day. However, with a little assistance from club members we can make it possible for them to overcome their aches and pains. And why not given the alternative is being trapped at home. Hands in the air, as photo on the coach depicts, is an indication of what a good time they had had.

ATTAIN’s coach driver was more than helpful and Steve at the Swan Hotel together with his staff truly helped to make the day what it was. We are sure the Lions who made it all happen and those who were there enjoyed it just as much.

Afternoon Tea at Ninestiles School in November followed by the Xmas Party at Fox Hollies Forum in January 2014 are being planned and make up the three events we offer our pensioners each year.
