42nd KEN GRAHAM ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

42nd KEN GRAHAM ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

Once again Southam Lions were out in force on Saturday September 21st at Southam College, for the annual Senior Citizens Party. Ken Graham, now sadly departed, was the force behind the party idea organising 38 of them.

Blessed once again this year with lovely sunshine some 140 Senior Citizens from Southam and surrounding villages were treated to an afternoon of fun at Southam College.

It was great to see the hall packed with guests and it was clear that they all enjoyed themselves, joining in with the songs of yesteryear from the band appropriately named ’60 Plus’ with some of the guests dancing along to the popular songs of the 50’s & 60’s.

One of the entertainers, Bill McKechnie even got the guests doing ‘Line Dancing’ on the stage. Those that couldn’t were shown how to use their hands to ‘line dance’ and it was good to see the Lions and their partners encouraging everyone to join in, even if they did make a few mistakes.

Thanks also for the fantastic performances by the children who are members of The Secret Garden Musical Theatre School. The dancing was really wonderful and the singing, particularly of the solo artists, was excellent. I’m pretty sure that some of these youngsters will soon be on our screens entering talent shows.

A lavish tea, provided courtesy of the Lion’s Ladies, was enthusiastically consumed, every last crumb, and then more entertainment from Bill McKechnie led to rousing applause from our lovely guests.

So an excellent afternoon and once again Southam Lion’s were left in no doubt that there MUST be another party next year and so there shall be.
