Corby Sports Awards 2013 - celebrating achievement

At the recent Corby Sports Awards, Corby & District Lions Club once again sponsored the “Volunteer of the Year” Award, recognising achievement at a local level in line with our motto “We Serve”.

Corinne Wilson and Tracey Shepherd came top of the three nominees for this year’s award. Corinne and Tracey started a Jog Northants group in January in the Beanfield area of Corby. Group members had a negative attitude towards exercise and running; and Corinne and Tracey took them through a gradual programme to encourage them to run a little bit more each week. They invested a lot of their time into leading the group, planning routes, and encouraging members to stay fit and healthy. All group members now love running and feel confident about running competitively.

Corby & District Lions continue to support this high profile event providing an opportunity to recognise and support volunteers in the local area.

The Corby Sports Awards ceremony is an annual event held by Corby Borough Council that aims to acknowledge local hard-working and dedicated individuals, sports clubs, schools and other local agencies which have improved the standard of sport throughout the borough.
