Balsall Common go horse racing and collecting for Haiyan

On Saturday 16th November Balsall Common Lions held a tin shake collection outside the Heart of England Co-op store in Balsall Common. We collected £905 including a collection we made at an evening fund raising event. This money will go towards buying 8 Lifesaver Jerry cans which can be filled through patented filters with water from puddles wells and streams, producing clean pathogen-free water. These jerry cans cost £190 each, so the balance will be provided from our Charity fund. We offer our sincere thanks to the residents of Balsall Common for their extreme generosity also to the Co-op for allowing us to collect outside the store.

Later on that evening we helped to arrange a Horse Racing Night at the Heart of England School in Balsall Common. This event was to raise much needed funds to buy new chairs to replace the old ageing chairs they have. The evening was a great success which raised £1202 and the Lions increased this to £1500.

The Lions organised the racing and the school children sold the tickets making it a great partnership for a successful event. The 6th formers helped with the racing and to serve a hot jacket potato and chilli supper.
