Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Mr & Mrs President

When Dave Carter joined Knowle and Dorridge Lions back in 1993 he did not dream that he would be leading them as President for the third time this year and that his wife Anne would join Shirley Lions and be taking on the Presidential role herself at the same time.

‘18 years ago I was looking for a new interest, friends outside of work and an opportunity to put something into the community,’ says Dave. ‘I visited a number of organisations before decided Lions was for me. Since then our club has grown with fundraising events like the Knowle Fun Run, Festive Walk and Bikeathon & Summer Stroll, organising coach trips and tea parties for the elderly and providing youth grants and donations to various local organisations – and now Anne has joined Shirley there are twice as many socials to attend as well’

‘Dave has always enjoyed the Lions,’ says Anne. ‘When I retired I decided if you cannot beat them then join them. At the time Knowle and Dorridge did not have any women members and besides I did not want to join his club, so I joined Shirley Lions. I found them a really friendly crowd doing similar things but differently. I’m really proud to lead Shirley this year and look forward to the carnival, Blythe Valley Fun Run, Santa Sleighs and other fundraising evenings, and our tea party for the elderly and other community service’.
