A fun night at Bewell Head Workman’s club was held by Bromsgrove Lions Club last Friday (11:11) with Councillor Mrs Caroline Spencer being the guest of honour. During the evening, the Bromsgrove Council’s Civic Leader drew Bromsgrove Lions’ Grand Draw tickets which had been sold in aid of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham ‘Home for the Brave’ appeal and other local needy causes. The three top prizes, a large flat screen television, Jamie Oliver Gas Barbeque and Halfords gift vouchers were all won by Bromsgrove people.

Phil Dent’s disco helped the evening along and he also organised the short quiz ran during the interval. Refreshments were provided by Lions members and the event brought to an end several weeks of ticket sales by Bromsgrove Lions and their friends.

£1200 will be given to the ‘Home for the Brave’ appeal which is raising funds to build a facility, near to the QE, where injured soldiers can convalesce away from the clinical environment of the hospital. The new accommodation will also offer facilities for their family, friends or colleagues, who may have travelled from some distance away, to stay overnight.

Lion Angela Ward, fundraising chair for the Lions, thanked Councillor Mrs Caroline Spencer for making the Draw, to people who had helped towards the success of the Grand Draw and to all those who donated the prizes. Councillor Spencer thanked Bromsgrove Lions for all their voluntary work in aid of the local community.

Further details of the work of Bromsgrove Lions can be found on their web site www.bromsgrovelions.org.uk.
