Lions Club of Coventry Godiva – Eye camp Makindu, Kenya

Lions Club of Coventry Godiva has sponsored an Eyecamp in Makindu (near Nairobi) in Kenya, East Africa to be held on the 11th and 12th February 2012.

Members of the Godiva Lions Club with their family and friends, making a group of 19 will be travelling to Makindu at their own expense to help with the Eyecamp.

Lion Gulab Mistry, Secretary of the Club was born in Kenya and had an opportunity through the Godiva Lions to organise and carry out this worthwhile project.

In the past the Club has sponsored 2 Eye-camps each year in India but this is the first time it is being held in East Africa where most of the travelling group were born.

One of the past Leo President, Urvi Jobanputra, who is a qualified optician will be travelling with the group and will be participating in the Eyecamp with optical and patient screening.

Lion Nim Bhuee, the Club’s Eyecamp Chairman has liased with The Makindu Sikh Temple and the Lions Club of Nairobi to make the project possible. The group will have the benefit of their local knowledge and facilities.

Whilst the group is in Kenya they hope to visit local orphanage and schools to assist them, if possible.

Godiva Lion has also sponsored another Eyecamp in Qadian, Punjab India on 28th February 2012, organised by Lion Rani Saund, from the Club.

The Club by holding Golf Tournaments, Diwali Party and New Year’s Eve party, has raised the funds for the eye camps and other needy causes.
