GREEN-fingered volunteers have been busy planting trees at Swinford Common in Stourbridge to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Volunteers from the Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions worked with Dudley Council to plant around 420 new trees on Saturday March 17.

The Woodland Trust has funded the work as part of a year-long planting project, which will see six million trees being planted across the UK by more than a million volunteers.

Councillor David Stanley, Dudley’s cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “A quarter of our borough is made up of green space and we are very proud of our beautiful parks and nature reserves.

“I would like to thank all the volunteers for getting involved in this planting event which will leave a special gift that can be enjoyed by many generations to come.”

Mike Blaxland, president of the Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions Club said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.”
