The biggest event for Big Band Music in the Midlands in 2012 has just been announced. Three members of the USA’s current favourite band, THE BIG PHAT BAND, are coming to the UK in July and who did they want to play with? The Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) that’s who! |

Leader Gordon Goodwin, saxophonist Eric Marienthal and trumpeter Wayne Bergeron will be in the UK for a concert in the North. They are amongst the best known players in the World so it was a great surprise when Gordon Goodwin emailed John Ruddick and suggested a concert during their stay. The response was immediate and positive. It is all organised for Sunday July 15th.at Sutton Town Hall. |

MYJO’s Director of Music, Dr John Ruddick explained “It is a brilliant opportunity for our young musicians to play with some of the world’s greatest jazz players so we felt we must seize the opportunity to bring them to town. It is also a huge opportunity for the fans to enjoy the music too.” |

MYJO’S greatest achievements in 2011 included playing on BBC Radio Two with the BBC Big Band and concerts with Tony Christie and Jacqui Dankworth. It is hoped that Big Band aficionados in the Midlands will support and enjoy their latest adventure.
