Warwick Town Carnival 2012 Update

This year’s theme is The Olympics and the event organised by Warwick Lions Club will be on Saturday 30th June.

The Lions are sorry that this year there will not be an official procession through the town as the Police have said they do not have the resources to support us and unfortunately the Lions cannot afford the £3000 to hire a private traffic management company. So the event is being renamed Fun Day in the Park and we advise, that any vehicles wanting to take part, meet at the Park and take our suggested ride around the town instead (see warwick carnival route). The Mayor, Councillor Mrs Elizabeth Higgins, and Princesses Lauren Pawlik and Mia Lane will still be able to ride in horsedrawn carriages on the suggested route.

After her election, Town Carnival Queen, Leah Jayne Townsend, won a place at the international cheerleading championships in Italy, representing England on 30th June. We are sorry the dates clash, understand her choice and wish her well in the competition.

There will be the usual arena in St Nicolas Park and adult admission will cost £2, accompanied children under 15 enter free. The Mayor will open the event at 1 pm together with our Carnival Princesses. The Princesses will be wearing dresses from the Eternal Bride in Warwick and new sashes.

We will welcome again the Warwick Girls Marching Band now renamed the Warwick Show Band.

This year we plan to make the Fun Day even more centred on children than last year, but linked to our Olympic theme. We are planning a bigger under 12's team challenge this year. Enter your team in a competition with various competition events, which includes the Olympic Torch* assault course relay, archery, shooting, javelin and more to win a trophy for your team. Just e-mail us with your team name and the names of your 5 members to info@warwickcarnival.co.uk. We will also see the return of the 'Fit to Dance' dance troop with the opportunity for you all to get involved as well, also the ever popular JRCS Falconry display for the children to be "swooped on" and a dog agility display.

If you would like to get more involved, we are always grateful of the help and perhaps you have ideas to make it better! Can you spare some time? Contact us on info@warwickcarnival.co.uk. In a particularly busy summer, Warwick Lions very much hope that everyone will make the effort to support this event. Any profits will go to Warwick Lions charities.

The next Lions event will be our Beer Festival at Warwick Racecourse on July 13th and 14th see www.lionsbeerfestival.co.uk
