With two teams having to drop out at the last minute, this years annual Inter-Schools quiz became a closely fought battle between teams from Shire Oak School and Aldridge Science College.

The quiz, organised by the Aldridge & District Lions Club, not only challenges the pupils from the schools but also helps various charities chosen by the competing pupils. This year saw Cancer Research and Help for Heroes benefiting from the efforts of the children.

Shire Oak School, who hosted the event, were the eventual winners with just one point separating the two teams at the final count.

Aldridge Lions Club President, Clyde Redfern, said, “The event was a great success despite only two teams competing in the end. This is possibly the hardest fought competition we have experienced during our years of running the competition which was evidenced by the final close result.”

The Aldridge Lions have a close relationship with the schools in the area and have several events aimed at the pupils.

Aldridge Lions Youth Officer Bob Metcalfe, said, "It was a lovely evening and the youngsters enjoyed the competition. It is always a great pleasure to see the enthusiasm of the pupils and appreciate the friendly rivalry."

All entrants received a certificate with the winning team receiving individual trophies plus the Lions Shield which is retained by the school for the next year.

Having presented the prizes, Clyde ended the evening by thanking the many teachers, staff, parents and others who had worked together to make the quiz an excellent evening.
