Knowle & Dorridge Festive Walk

The freezing cold but dry weather on the 28th December brought out hundreds of walkers for another great fundraising event – The Annual Festive Walk organized by Knowle and Dorridge Lions.

“This is the 16th year our Club have organised this great community fundraising day from Baddesley Clinton National Trust House”, said organising Lion Simon Newell. “We were delighted to welcome over 500 people who set off for the choice of 4, 7 or 10 mile walks around the area.

Almost £2,000 was received in donations to Macmillan Cancer Support, Whizz-Kidz, Campaign SightFirst ll and local Lions causes during the day, and we are hopeful that those collecting sponsorship will eventually swell this figure to well over £6,000.

The recent dry weather had given the lanes and footpaths time to dry out enabling more walkers to tackle the longer 7 & 10 mile sign-posted routes this year. Many locals who turn up every year and others that travel from further afield say it’s great to get out and get some good fresh country air to walk off the Christmas pudding, with friends and family.

Afterwards walkers enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies with the Lions. We thank the National Trust for allowing us to use Baddesley Clinton NT House which provides a great setting for the Festive Walks.’

It was great to welcome a mini bus load of Lions from Wellesbourne, and others from Balsall Common & Kenilworth. Anyone who was unable to join us on this walk, but would like to follow the routes in warmer weather can visit the Lions website www.KnowleandDorridgeLions.com/Walk where they will be able to download the route map.
