Malvern Hills Lions Annual Knockout Competition

The 12th Annual Knockout competition took place at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, using the topic theme of the Gunpowder Plot 2008, with seven Special Education Centres participating in this friendly competition. These being –

• Malvern Social Education Centre
• Tewkesbury Adult Opportunity Centre
• Evesham Day Centre
• Droitwich Kingfields Day Centre
• Hereford St. Owen’s Centre
• Worcester Perryfields Social Education Centre
• Regency High School, Worcester

Each Centre prepared a game and built the relevant props; also entering a Poster Competition. They competed with one another to find a winner for the year. About 250 members of the Centres plus over 100 supporters, together with members of Malvern Lions assisted on the day. In addition, Lions from Droitwich, Evesham, Worcester and Hereford were on hand to give support.

Avon Hall at the Showground is like an aircraft hanger, which had to be transformed into the theme of the year. For weeks beforehand Lions had to paint and prepare scenery to support the chosen theme.

The various Centres practiced their games, devised relevant props, built their own ‘joker' card and prepared costumes for their particular game/theme.

The enthusiasm of participants was a joy to watch. They do appreciate meeting other Centre personnel and look forward to the event for weeks beforehand. This is a worthwhile and satisfying event from many points of view.
