Kettering Lions – Day in the Park

Kettering Lions held their 16th annual "Day in the Park" on April 25th. which was their most successful yet. Ten clubs from 105M came to Wicksteed Park, bringing 245 children and adults and carers.

The weather started overcast, and then the sun came out to match the smiles on the children’s faces, as they explored the many and varied attractions the park offers. There were plenty of different and exciting rides for them enjoy, and the railway around the lake was a great favourite for many, some having several trips, and the drivers put on extra rides to cope with the demand.

We were very pleased to see that more clubs came than last year, so the word is spreading through 105M of what a great day it is. Lion clubs are able take advantage of the free parking and discounted arm-bands scheme which we negotiate with Wicksteed Park, so they have an opportunity to provide a community service, at a very reasonable cost. Kettering have already had discussions with Wicksteed Park about next year, and they were delighted to see the day was so successful, so for those clubs that were not able to come this year, keep reading Midland News for details of the 2010 date.

We were very pleased that the film company which is making a promotional DVD about the Lions and what they do, came to Wicksteed Park to record some of the activities, and as our Community Services Chairman, told us that he is co-starring with HRH the Countess of Wessex. Dream on Ivan.
