Wellesbourne & Warwick Lions In Harmony

The Lions Clubs of Wellesbourne and Warwick came together to present a Spring Gala Concert in aid of The Myton Hospices.

The Concert, held at the Guy Nelson Hall, Warwick School on Monday 4th May, featured the Midland Concert Orchestra lead by their Music Director Jonathan Hill, supported by a 50 strong local choir – Tarantara.

The orchestra has provided music for the Royal Variety Show at the Grand Theatre; performed with the principles of the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company; as well as performing in all the major theatre venues in the Midlands.

The Tarantara choir was formed in 2003 as a registered charity. It is a mixed choir of over 50 members, all of whom are enthusiastic amateurs who perform to an exceptionally high standard. The choir’s wide ranging repertoire has become very popular with audiences across the Midlands region and significant sums of money have been raised as a result of their concerts.

Jonathan Hill, currently working in senior management at the Performing Arts College in Worcestershire, put together a programme to delight any audience. A mixture of Mozart, Strauss, Lehar, Handel, Verdi etc., all gentle woven with light-hearted humour had the audience foot tapping and clapping to the beat on occasions.

All this before an audience which included the Mayors from Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa, and Kenilworth; Deputy Mayors from Whitnash and Southam; Chair Warwickshire County Council; Chair District Councils of Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick; plus Lady Kilmaine – High Sherriff of Warwickshire.

Myton Hospice provides high quality hospice and end of life care to people throughout Warwickshire and Coventry, supporting not only the patients but also their carers and loved ones. The Hospice is reliant on the support of the local community to cover it costs as all the care is given at no charge.

Myton was delighted that over many years the Lions Clubs in Warwickshire and Coventry have been committed supporters and expressed the thanks to everyone involved in the organisation of the Concert.
