Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Coventry Leofric Lions Club Walkathon

Thanks to the pledged money from the 2009 event the Coventry Walkathon has now raised over £150,000 for local charities and good causes This year’s event was a walk around the park and Diabetes UK were the nominated charity.

The Walkathon took place at the Coventry Memorial Park on Sunday the 10th May and like the event the weather was marvellous

As organizers, Coventry Leofric Lions, were very pleased with the hundreds of people who turned up on the day. Over 50% turned up in fancy dress making the Lord Mayor’s job difficult but with the help of his wife and the Lions President they managed to agree.

The prizes were in age categories and there were 10 separate £100 prizes for the best Fancy Dress going to:-

Penny Bruce (Friend of the development centre )

Caroline Hobday ( Coventry International Skating Club)

Pasha Thompson ( Scope 4 Coventry) who won two prizes,The President’s prize for the effort in making the Tardis and for the category she entered

Additional winners were Michael McBrierty (Help the Heroes) Elaine Hancock's (Paul Wards Memorial Fund) Sheila Bates(Coventry Squadron Cheerleaders )

The three further Presidents Prizes The Coventry Kobate Breakers for walking the event and the performance in entertaining the walkers after the event .Two other prizes will be nominated later by the Leofric Lions Walkathon Committee The money will be added to the Walkers pledged charity once the organizer receive confirmation of their sponsored money being banked .

Events like this take a lot of organizing and the support we receive from the local papers ,Radio Touch FM and Covenrtry Leisure Services is greatly appreciated because without their help we would not have a Coventry Walkathon.
